My experience with Malaysian food at (Asia Pacific University) in Malaysia.
As a student studying at Asia Pacific University (APU) in Malaysia, I wanted to share my personal experience with Malaysian food. When I first arrived in Kuala Lumpur, I was excited to explore the local flavors and try the dishes I had heard so much about. Truly, it was a unique and enjoyable experience.
- Variety of Restaurants On and Around Campus
What makes Asia Pacific University stand out is its location near many restaurants offering a variety of Malaysian and international cuisines. Whether you prefer traditional food or are looking for vegetarian or halal options, you’ll always find something to suit your taste. - Famous Malaysian Dishes I Tried
Since arriving, I’ve become a big fan of Malaysian food. Some of the dishes I loved include:
- Nasi Lemak: Malaysia’s national dish, consisting of rice cooked in coconut milk, served with anchovies, peanuts, cucumber slices, and sambal.
- Mee Goreng: Stir-fried noodles with vegetables and either chicken or seafood. The taste was amazing and full of spices.
- Satay: Grilled meat skewers served with peanut sauce.
- Laksa: A rich and flavorful noodle soup, one of the best dishes I’ve ever had.
- Campus Dining Options
The university also provides food options within the campus to meet students’ needs:
- University Cafeteria: Offers a wide variety of meals at very affordable prices.
- Small Food Stalls: Scattered around campus, serving snacks like Roti Canai and cold drinks.
- Local Markets and Restaurants
On weekends, I would visit night markets that offer local food at very low prices. Eating at these markets was a fun experience, as you could try many dishes in one place. - My Personal Experience
Initially, it took me some time to adapt to the strong spices in Malaysian food, but over time, I started enjoying them and even began exploring new recipes. Malaysian food is not just about eating; it reflects the rich cultural diversity of the country.
A Tip from a Student
To every new student at Asia Pacific University, I encourage you to bravely try Malaysian food. Start with lighter dishes, then move on to the more flavorful ones with bold spices. If you need tips on restaurants or markets, don’t hesitate to ask your peers or locals.
