My Experience with Adapting at City University Malaysia
When I began my academic journey at City University Malaysia, I was excited to embark on this new experience, but I was also aware that adjusting to a new environment wouldn’t be easy. However, I found that the university provides a supportive environment that helps students quickly integrate and adapt to both the academic and social life there.
Adapting to the Academic System
At first, I faced some challenges with the teaching style and the way lectures were delivered. There was a strong emphasis on interactive learning, such as group discussions and hands-on projects, which was quite different from the traditional methods I was used to. But over time, I began to enjoy this approach as it promotes understanding rather than rote memorization.
The professors at the university are very helpful and always ready to assist students, both during lectures and through advisory sessions. My advice to any new student is to communicate with your professors and never hesitate to ask questions, as this will help you understand the subjects better and adapt to the academic system more quickly.
Adapting to Social Life
One of the best experiences I had at City University was meeting peers from various nationalities. The university has students from diverse cultural backgrounds, which made the experience even more enriching. At first, I was a bit hesitant to join student activities, but once I started participating, I felt like I was truly part of the university community.
There are many clubs and activities that help students build new friendships and develop their personal skills. I highly recommend any new student to participate in the events and activities organized by the university; they are a great opportunity to meet new people and adjust to the new environment more easily.
Adapting to Life in Malaysia
Moving to Malaysia for both living and studying was a challenge at first, especially when it came to accommodation, transportation, and food. However, what helped me was that the university offers comfortable housing options near the campus, which made the adjustment process much easier.
As for food, Malaysia is known for its diverse cuisine, and I quickly found restaurants that suited my taste, whether local or international. Additionally, the availability of halal food options was very convenient for me.
Advice for New Students
- Don’t be afraid to try new things; adaptation requires an open mind and a willingness to learn.
- Organize your time between studying and social activities so you don’t feel overwhelmed or isolated.
- Connect with your classmates and professors; the support you get from them will help you adapt faster.
- Explore Malaysia—it’s a country full of opportunities and enjoyable activities that will make your academic experience even more fun and enriching.
In the end, I found that adapting at City University was not as difficult as I had imagined. It became an essential part of my educational and personal development journey. Once you embrace the new environment and open yourself up to the available opportunities, you’ll realize that the university is not just a place to study, but a community that helps you grow and evolve.
