A special guide to students to manage time

Our daily routines are part of our great decisions in our lives, and the way we choose how to spend time affects us in many aspects more than you can imagine. Once you manage your time you’ll be able to set priorities easily and also you’ll be able to control your anxieties. Students need to put time management as a priority because it will enable them to have a smooth learning process. The task of time management could be challenging at times, but it could be done if planned well. We have tracked down the best ways to manage time as a student.



Observe how you spend your time
If you monitor how you spend your time during the day, you’ll be able to handle many tasks efficiently. You can record what you do every 15 minutes for  two weeks and identify what you need to do or what is more important than the other. After you do this you’ll be able to determine the tasks that need most of your time and the tasks that need less time. You’ll also  be able to determine when you’re most productive and the amount of time you spend with family and friends.



Set you priorities straight!
In order to manage your time, you need to differentiate between what is important and what is urgent without making the urgent things dominating your life. Researchers Covey and Merill in 1994 have stated that we should always categorize our activities in to 4 quadrants according to their time management matrix.



Make Use of a planning tool
Today’s modern technology has made it nothing but easier to communicate and live our lives. You need to find one planning tool and keep on using it consistently as you need to use it to keep a list for your priorities; you could also synchronize electronic planners with your computer and keep a backup system.

Organize your surroundings!
You need to start cleaning up what lies around you in order to think clearly and also neatly. You could start doing that by putting up 3 boxes labeled give “away”, “trash”, and “keep”. Separate all your stuff by placing it in these boxes in accordance to what they are. These items will definitely include things you want to sell, lend, or eliminate its usage. After you finish sorting it out, implement a system that allows you to handle information such as tasks, papers, boards, and emails.
 


Put a time schedule
You need to recognize yourself in order to set up a good schedule, therefore you could use a time log to record the times when you’re most productive and alert and assign yourself the most challenging tasks at this duration. You also need to block out time for your high priorities activities and avoid time interruption and distractions.

Ask others to help you
Identify tasks that people you trust and rely on will be able to do and delegate some of your tasks to them. As this is a very critical situation, you need to make sure that they have your skills, experience and interest and those they fully understand your task, but most importantly give them the full freedom to personalize the task. You could monitor their progress and you may also pay for their tasks such as cleaning your house for example.



Quit procrastinating
You might be procrastinating several tasks for many reasons, but in order to sort that out, you will need to break the tasks in to less segments that would result in specific and realistic deadlines. If you have trouble getting started you can start first by doing the easy things such as collecting materials and organizing notes.



Avoid multi-tasking
Recent psychological studies have proven that multi-tasking doesn’t at all in any way save time, on the contrary it drains more of your energy and time. The process of switching from one task to another will make you lose productivity and focus very quickly.
